• d = diameter of the diaphragm in m
  
• D = internal diameter of the pipe in m
  
• P1 - P2 = pressure drop to be created in bar (Differential pressure)

The calculation of the diaphragms is carried out from the following relation:

• Qv = Water flow in m3/s
• S = Section of the pipe
  
• r = Density of water in kg/m3 (depends on the temperature)
  
• g = 9.81

One deduces the diameter from the diaphragm (d) by the relation.
